Ignite held to season-low in points, lose to Blue again

Two nights after capturing their first win of the season, the G League Ignite were held to a season-low 88 points during the team’s most recent loss.

For the second time in this young season, the Ignite lost to the Oklahoma City Blue, this time on the road by a final score of 106-88. In the loss, the Ignite were held to 42 points in the second half.

OKC also won the season opener between these two teams, 134-125.

Now, the NBA’s affiliate team is 1-4 through the first games of the year. After playing the next contest, the team would have played three of its first six games against the Blue.

The Ignite will play the backend of a two-game series in Oklahoma City Wednesday, Nov. 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.

The Blue used a +10 third quarter to turn a five-point halftime lead into a 15-point lopsided lead heading into the final 12 minutes of play. Before the end of the game, Oklahoma City led by as many as 19 points in the fourth.

A three-plus minute scoreless stretch for the Ignite changed the complexion of the game as the home team used an eventual 11-0 run to take the, 34-33, lead.

It wasn’t the first time OKC used a run to get back into the game. After the Ignite had built a seven-point first quarter lead, a 7-0 run knotted the game at 15.

Ultimately, the visitors used a 13-3 lead to take a 10-point lead into the second quarter. That means the Ignite have blown a double-digit lead in three of the team’s four losses.

Oklahoma City used another 9-0 run in the second quarter to take that halftime lead while the NBA’s development group went scoreless for another near three-minute stretch.

Guard Jah’mius Ramsey led the charge with 15 second quarter points for 18 total in the first half which included scoring nine of the team’s final 11 points. He finished with a team-high 26 points after leading the team in the first meeting with 29 points.

Ramsey was one of five OKC players in double-figures while guard Scoot Henderson was the lone Ignite player with double-digit scoring until the fourth quarter.

Henderson poured in 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor to go along with three rebounds, three assists and three steals. He tallied 25 points and seven assists in the first meeting between the two teams.

Forwards Aubrey Dawkins and Babacar Sane each scored 12 points apiece.

The Ignite played without guards London Johnson, Cameron Young and John Jenkins along with forwards Leonard Miller and Shareef O’Neal. Johnson and Miller missed their second straight game while Jenkins missed his fourth straight.

Young has yet to play this season.

As a team, the Ignite committed 22 turnovers on the night. Coming into the game, the team averaged 12 turnovers per contest.

The turn-of-events came after the NBA affiliate forced OKC into 10 turnovers in the first 12-plus minutes of the game. The Blue cleaned it up and committed just 11 turnovers over the last 35 minutes of the ball game.
